The attorneys for the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington waited until the 11th hour of the last day of the challenge period to file a challenge in DC Superior Court. They knew that this would deny us petitions until it could be heard by the court. This was purely an obstructionist tactic knowing that we had to get 25,000 valid signatures within 30 congressional days. The clock continued to tick through all these proceedings. Late yesterday afternoon we went before a Judge who ordered that we receive the petitions. The Board of Elections held a special meeting late last night and voted to abide by the court order.

Everyone is Needed to Protect Democracy and the Right to Vote!
Getting the Referendum on the ballot will send a strong message to the DC Council and business interest in the city. It seems that neither care for the sanctity and sacredness of the vote and that is why they could so casually ask for the nullification of a vote and the DC Council would abide. We need 25,000 valid signatures on petitions within 9 days. We are putting well over 100 people in the streets and it is growing by the minute. Won’t you help us to make this history and send this loud and clear statement to everyone that we aim To Save Our Votes!
